June 6

Around noon, Jeremy and Mary and two sons Sammy and Vern came to our hotel… we visited, prayed, reminisced, and caught up on each other’s lives… we ate a meal together and they left late afternoon.

June 7

We feel it’s time to secure lodging closer to Carrefour… the owner of the hotel we are staying at contacted a man at the fish farm, who said there was some room available… we have lowered our expectations as to what can work for us… We loaded up all our belongings on top of the van, paid up, and left Roc Hotel… We know where we are headed but don’t know what is waiting for us…

On the way to the village…

Again God prepared a way before us! The manager at Lofty Farms said he had two rooms set aside for us… it was more than we expected, even if it was a 16’x16’ room. We unloaded some luggage then headed on to Carrefour.

We unloaded the rest of our belongings at Jeremy’s house…

Jeremy and Mary… a home away from home… we are always welcome here… on the left you see a shower room… in the middle under the thatched roof is the kitchen… and the far room is used for storage while the first two are sleeping quarters…

Back to Fendig for night… with the mats we purchased in Atakpame there was a bed for everyone… all floor space was taken up but it was sufficient… air conditioner, toilet, sink, shower… this was home for the next two weeks.

June 8 - Living at the fish farm, we got to see some action…

Three days a week the fish are caught, sorted, packed in ice, and shipped to Lome…

We are living in the village of Fendig, and our need for food led us to this local restaurant 1/2 mile down the road… We frequented this joint many times over the next two weeks… egg sandwiches, beans & rice w/sauce, spaghetti w/sauce, & coffee were the main choices… we experimented with a few different varieties using the same ingredients, such as sauce in the egg sandwich, or sauce in bread with a few choice chunks of “cow meat”… rice and beans, then beans and rice, etc… they had really, really great sauce!

Bailey drew the children in…

Covered porch outside our apartment… Jaime drawing pictures…

Local children have noticed our arrival and love to play football (soccer)…

Weston also brought a football…

To Carrefour in the afternoon… more soccer for the boys…

So good to meet long time friends and their children!

June 9 … a trip to the coffee shop… Jaime loves it… we all do!

Order and eat…

A place to hang out…

June 10 - Went to Carrefour mid-afternoon… shortly after our arrival a torrential rainstorm occurred, heavier than they had seen in years…

It ran like a river…

A shelter from the storm…

Boys…

Two alternatives to an umbrella… a plastic bag or a tin plate…
