June 2 - on the ground again
June 3 - hailed motorcycle taxi to get Togo SIM cards for phones

Found a 15 passenger taxi to take us inland… to Atakpame

Here’s our trusty 15 passenger bus…rented for 3 weeks at $47/day…
June 5…heading out to the village today! After 7 years… One van and three motos…
3 motos… our van came with an apprentice, Samson (driving center moto) he was with us the first three weeks
We left around 1:40, and what we thought would take 1 hour became more than two… bad roads and rain… The moto drivers got refreshed 😅
Sometimes driving BESIDE the road is better than ON the road…

We stopped at the villages of Fendig and Nangbetto to inquire after lodging, but it seems that the relatively new fish farm, Lofty Farms, has impacted housing availability and we could find nothing suitable.
When we finally reached Carrefour and pulled up to Jeremy and Mary’s house it was around 5:00, an hour before nightfall.
Wow! It is beyond words to describe the welcome … the meeting and greeting … walking thru the village … the buzz of excitement, recognition, and chatter … so many familiar faces … children now youth … many new buildings but so much just the same…
When we reached the end of the village darkness had fallen and we finally turned back to Jeremy’s house, loaded back into our trusty van and then the long ride back to Atakpamé.
I think we made it back in less than two hours. The motos stayed in the village.
